Hendra Mural
The Hendra Mural Project was a project set up by John Mackenzie who works for Addaction and the group YZ-up to Drugs and Alcohol. With the aid of Penzance artist Mat McIvor and St. Ives artist Tom Suttcliffe, they held a number of workshops with a group of young people teaching them techniques in mural painting, spray can painting and character development.
The workshops were held to develop ideas from the young people, with the intention of designing a large piece of art for a 40ft long wall in Hendra playpark in Truro. The youngsters aged between 16 - 21, worked for 2 months in the workshops to develop the final piece which focuses on the issues and problems which arise through drugs and alcohol. Over a period of 6 days, the mural was completed under the guidance of the artists with a mixture of masonary paint and spray paint'
